Rhubarb and Custard Sparkling Drink

You’re probably thinking the same thing I was when I first saw this Marks and Spencers Rhubarb and Custard flavoured sparkling drink – that’s gonna be one sickly concoction! But prepare to be pleasantly surprised. I’ve tried a horrid Tesco Rhubard and Custard cordial before, that was so sweet and disgusting I’m surprised it didn’t put me off the idea of that flavour of drink for life. But alas, a sucker for anything with ‘new’ written on the label I bought this anyway.
Marks and Spencers are really putting in the effort with this Great British Summer and Jubilee type range at the moment, it’s quite nice as they’re really going for something different. For what people probably regard as a ‘pensioners’ hang out, some of their designs and style of labelling is really impressive and contemporary.
The drink itself is a vivid pink colour, it’s not overly fizzy just a delicate sparkle. The smell of the Rhubarb and Custard isn’t actually very strong, not like the cordial I once had that was really overpowering. The taste is really subtle too when you are drinking it, it’s not until the after taste that the flavour really hits you. It’s really quite nice and refreshing, nothing like I expected. It is almost like drinking the actual sweets! Really spot on in the balance of fizz, flavour and subtlety. There were a few variants I wouldn’t have been interested in trying beforehand but now I’m intrigued as to whether the Cola Cube one REALLY tastes like Cola Cubes. You can pick this and the others up at your local M&S for around £1.20.
