#MiraMessMakers: DIY Beauty Recipes

DIY Beauty Recipes

Recently I was invited to crack out my best bowl and spoons to make some DIY Beauty Recipes as part of the #MiraMessMakers campaign. Mira Showers have certainly thought outside of the box with this one, and joined forces with Midas Touch Crafts to bring bloggers everywhere some inspiration for making their own beauty products at home.

DIY Beauty Recipes

The two 'beauty recipes' I'm going to include feature everyone's favourite substance, coconut oil, as the key ingredient. It seems a bit silly to splash loads of cash on beauty products when you can just whip up some treats using products you can find in your cupboard doesn't it? So in addition to the beloved Coconut Oil I'm also going to use a few select ingredients from my kitchen, which you can buff away rough elbows and keep your lips smoochable with!

You'll usually find that the base ingredient for most at home beauty recipes is always going to be coconut oil. Whether you're browsing on Pinterest of a high street magazine; This wonder-oil can be used for pretty much everything. From moisturing skin, cleansing your make up off to hydrating your hair, coconut oil has a plethora of uses outside of cooking. Rumoured to even whiten your teeth, coconut oil may seem a bit pricey when you first visit it on the supermarket shelf, but when you consider how multi-use it actually is, you end up realising that it's a bit of a bargain.

The first beauty recipe to make with coconut oil is a energising home made coffee body scrub. With 4 ingredients you can buff smooth skin and even improve circulation with things you probably already have.

All you need is:

  • Coconut Oil
  • Olive Oil
  • Sugar (granulated for a fine scrub or brown for a rougher texture)
  • Coffee grounds (pick them up for free from your local Starbucks!)
Then all you do is:
  • GIVE IT A GOOD MIX.
Measuring the ingredients doesn't come in to this recipe, as the texture and thickness can be tailored to however you like it. If you find it's getting a bit sticky then just add a splash  of water from the tap, but if you want it thicker, just add more coffee or sugar. Rub in circular motion from your face to your butt and on knobbly bits in between; then rinse off in the shower to reveal instantly smoother skin. The coconut oil will moisturise, whilst the grains will buff dead skin away. Beautiful.

My next DIY beauty recipe using everyone's favourite multi purpose item, is this tinted lip balm. All you need to do it pop some coconut oil in to an egg cup and add a little bit of your favourite lipstick, pop in the microwave for a few seconds until it melts and mix it up.

Pour in to an old lip balm pot and leave to set for a few minutes, and voilĂ  - your very own tinted lip balm in whatever shade you like! Simple! You can make it as sheer or as opaque as you like and even mix colours together to make your own custom shade. It really couldn't be easier.
