My Favourite Berry Red Lip Shades

My Favourite Berry Red Lip Shades

When it comes to lipsticks and lip balms, I actually think I may have an underlying obsession with lip products. Whenever I open a bag or look in my beauty hoards, I find SO many lipsticks which I forget I owned.  I never even used to wear a lip colour on a daily basis and used to avoid red shades completely opting for nude tones such as the ones in this post. I always felt I looked a little too much like an extra from RuPauls Drag Race when wearing a bold lip colour. How times have changed though, and in the past 3 years I have embraced the bold lip more than ever.

I've managed to narrow down my favourite berry coloured lip shades in to 3 products. I use all of these regularly and love them all for their own reasons.

My most reached for daily berry red lipstick is the Maybelline Colour Drama lip pencil in shade 'Red Essential'. The Colour Drama Lipsticks are probably one of my favourite high street beauty discoveries, ever. Not only are they pretty affordable, often being on offer in Asda so you can get them for around  a fiver, but they also come in a range of lovely colours. Red Essential is a warm, blue toned deep red, which once applied lasts (almost) all day long. It wears off evenly from your lips, without the annoying patchy wear-off deep colours often have and despite the slightly matte finish it doesn't dry your lips out.

Another one of my favourite dark red lip colours, was actually popped to me by one of my favourite bloggers ever; Annie, from Epiphanniea Blog. I've been lusting after the Too Faced Melted Berry lipstick since its launch and like a beauty angel sent from heaven, Annie had one she sent to me. This stuff is a weird formula to get used to at first, as it's incredibly thick and you feel like it may sit uncomfortably on your lips with the creamy, gloss texture. However, after application if you give it a blott or two, the colour stays boldly on your lips and there's no fear of getting a rogue hair stuck on it and getting it on your face. I don't use this as often as my Colour Drama lipstick, as for £19 a tube, this stuff is precious.

Finally, another lip product I lusted after for years before it finally mine is the Stila Raspberry Crush Lip and Cheek Stain. This is a gel like formula, but opaque in colour. I did swatch the other colours in this range and unfortunately none deliver the same intense and amazing colour as the Raspberry one and are all really translucent in comparison. I managed to pick this up for £8 from the Beauty Outlet at my local Freeport and my life is now a step closer to being complete. The colour is almost metallic, akin to the OCC Lip Tar in Black Metal Dahlia, but slightly lighter in both shade and formula. This lasts equally as long and also leaves a nice stain on your lips throughout the day. I'm so glad I finally own it!

Have your tried any of these berry red lip shades? What's your favourite?

    1. All the ones I have tried, apart from the coral coloured one, have been perfect. I've actually had two of the nude shade ones before as I used the first one up so quickly!
