Tortilla, Grand Central, Birmingham

Did you know that I used to do anything I could to not step foot in to Birmingham? It was literally the last place I’d EVER want to go. I was never sure why, but there was something about the atmosphere, it just wasn’t as friendly as I found Manchester or Stoke. However, since the new Grand Central cropped up, Birmingham has had somewhat of a revival within my heart and now it’s safe to say that I actually enjoy going. And that’s not just to see my bloggy friend Tereza from Cityscape Bliss either!
With Grand Central comes a whole range of new eateries to get your fill of a host of culinary delights. This week I visited Tortilla with my parents and we all had a tasty treat in the form of their burrito offerings.

Tortilla offers freshly made burritos, tacos and quesedilla, all freshly made in front of you. A bit like Subway but with a distinct Mexican difference. You can have your burrito as a classic wrap version, or go for a bowl, which is basically the contents of your burrito but without the wrap! We all opted for pretty much the same thing, with the meat of choice being Steak.
As you go along the selections of fresh rice, meat, beans and sauces you simply choose what you fancy and the lovely server will whip it up for you. Quick, simple and super tasty. The prices range from £5 to £6.50 for most of the items on the menu and it was so filling I could barely finish my burrito bowl.

On my bowl I opted for the spicy salsa, which was a lovely contrast to the sour cream and cheese which was also piled on the top. I did find the beans were a little ‘hard’ but I’m unsure if that is how they should be cooked anyway? I’m not that familiar with the varieties of beans on the scene, you see. This didn’t detract from the flavour though and even the seasoning on the rice was delicious.
Tortilla is know for this margarita machine as well as their quick and tasty food, so it would have been a shame not to try one. Served from a slush machine, it’s like a grown up slush puppy but with the additional tequila and lime flavouring….

So, if you’re after a cheap, quick and tasty hot meal on your way through Grand Central in Birmingham then Tortilla is your new favourite eatery. Give it a go and then work your way around the other food delights now available too!
