Grand Pacific is a little bit of luxury in central Manchester. Tucked away off the High Street, you can find this pineapple themed haven through the glass doors by Pretty Green in Spring Gardens.
Home to what can be described as Asian Fusion food and cocktails with a twist, Grand Pacific recently introduced their Strawberry themed High Tea.
An afternoon tea experience that pays tribute to the humble strawberry. Which I suppose is a little strange when the pineapple is the prominent fruit within the decor… But I’m not complaining.
Grand Pacific High Tea
The first glorious stand that comes out is the savoury selection. Tiny crumpets smothered with lobster butter, sandwiches featuring egg and cress and coronation chicken, arancini, salmon potato cake and a distinctly delicious Eccles cake coated in cheese.
After the savoury round is finished, you are presented with a completely strawberry themed sweet selection.
My favourite from this course was the trifle. There’s a lot to be said about the simplicity yet absolute taste sensation that is a classic trifle. I mean, it just ticks all the boxes: Fruit so it feels healthy, Jelly for some texture, Custard to add some luxury and cream to make it pretty.
Bloody love a good trifle I do.
The whole experience is complemented by a strawberry themed cocktail of your choice. The strawberry delight is a creamy number, almost like drinking an alcoholic yoghurt, whereas the long tail strawberry cocktail is sweet and sour in flavour. If you don’t fancy a cocktail, you do get a hot drink as standard anyway.
My only minor criticism of the experience was that the strawberry theme could have been included in the savoury selection a little more. I mean, there is ample room for a strawberry and feta salad with a drizzle of balsamic in my life. But unfortunately strawberries didn’t feature in any of the culinary delights until dessert. But you do have your strawberry cocktail to wash everything down anyway.
