I’ve wanted to try Feather Hair Extensions
for so long, I love the idea of having feathers in my hair for a little touch of boho on a daily basis. I was a bit put off though as they’re so rare to find on actual websites and I thought if I got them on ebay I wouldn’t have all the apparatus to put them in properly! Alas hairtrade.com
have come to my rescue and you can purchase actual kits from them which consist of everything you need to put them in.
In this kit you get 2 x bunches of the extensions which is ten feathers split up into 5 in each bundle. I must admit I was expecting a few more than 2, but at the same time I don’t want to appear like I’ve had a scrap with an exotic bird so I guess two is sufficient, especially as I wanted them to be more subtle but still a little bit quirky to be worn on a daily basis. I chose the green ones as green is my favourite colour and also I thought it would be a nice contrast to my hair colour. The feathers are called ‘grizzly’ for some reason that I don’t know! But some are usually striped alongside some plain coloured ones.
The extensions are so ridiculously easy to put in, it’s kind of like when you thread a needle with one of those metal loop things. You take a small bit of your hair and thread it through the plastic loop which has the metal fitting ring on it already. You then take the hair ring and swipe it over said bit of hair and you’re ready to just pop the feather piece through. The feathers are bonded together at the top with some glue, you need to make sure you don’t take too much hair so you can’t fit the glued top of the extensions through, but at the same time make sure there’s enough to make sure the feathers don’t just fall out. It did say you squash the metal loop flat with some pliers but I just left it as it was and they didn’t budge all day.
I left them in all day and they were comfortable enough to forget about them, you can’t feel them in your hair and it didn’t irritate me at all. You can leave them in as long as you want and because they are natural they can be washed as well. You can also use heat on them as long as the appliances are on a lower setting. These retail for £14.99 which I think is a little steep but as they as quite rare to find I guess that averages out the price. You can find cheaper alternatives on ebay but like I said I am unsure about these as they may not be natural feathers or contain everything you need to fit them. What do you think of feather hair extensions? They’re as nice as I’d hoped and I am tempted to get a few more in different colours too. But maybe they will remain a ‘trend’ only I like, the same as my beloved Jelly Shoes!
