Screw the Sales, Hit the Charity Shops.

Arrghhhh, every one is going sale and bargain mad now it’s the post Christmas spending meltdown season. I did have a little look in the sales and picked up a few bits and bobs but after about 3 shops I just decided to head to the Charity Shops instead! If I didn’t want anything on the high street full price, I don’t know why sales are even tempting me?! Newcastle Under Lyme is great for Charity Shop shopping and in the Douglas Macmillan one I always find so many Laura Ashley garments, including my favourite tweed skirt ever (which mother accidentally shrunk!!). I didn’t have anything in mind when going into the shops but there always seems to be this person who magically wears the same size as me and likes to drop off designer and expensive pieces now and again. And as I’ve mentioned they’re always a wash with Laura Ashley things!

The most exciting thing I picked up was this Paul & Joe Blazer. I think it’s one of those brands a lot of people (particularly old dears in Stoke) haven’t heard of and to be honest neither had I until a few years ago when they released those cat shaped lipsticks. I knew they were a clothing brand originally though and when I saw this for a fiver on my way out of the shop I swooped and got it!! When I got home and googled it the same one but in pink was coming up for ยฃ400!!!!!! FOUR HUNDRED QUID!! But reduced to 200odd in a sale. And I paid a fiver? Are you kidding me?!!? It is a little tight though and I can’t quite fasten the button (I think it’s a size 6/8) but it’s still very flattering open and looks so nice on (outfit post imminent in the future!)

I went a bit mad on velvet too when in the Charity Shops and spotted this Edinburgh Woollen Mill velvet… uhm, jacket/shirt/blazer? It cost ยฃ3.99 and it a lovely deep purple colour. It’s perfect for what I wanted it for too, as it’s a size 12 so comes in really loose fitting and covers my bum a bit! It’s really soft and lovely to wear. I wanted something like this to wear with leggings as they’re my new obsession of late and I’m always a bit paranoid about my bum sticking out so this is a winner all round.

And finally this Laura Ashley Velvet dress!! It was a little pricey…. at ยฃ8 but I bought it anyway and I just loved the deep wine colour. It’s a size 10 but I’ve found particularly older cuts from Laura Ashley are a little more fitted so I do have to breathe in slightly to zip it up! I almost put it back because of the length though…..

However, it was nothing a bit of wonderweb and some hair straighteners didn’t solve!! (I don’t have an iron) I just cut around the length I wanted the dress to be, folded it up, got the hair straighteners to make the crease then popped the wonderweb in and went over it again with the straighteners, voilรก! New dress new dress! I know these pictures aren’t very good but it was around 9pm last night I decided to alter it so it’s the best I’m taking for now, proper outfit post will come soon though!

Have you picked up any bargains in the ALL SEASON sale? Aka the Charity Shops. I did spend some of the Christmas money my nan gave to me on these things so it made me feel very lovely that I didn’t waste the money on things which were completely useless and the money has gone into a very good cause.

      Oooh yay, thanks!

  13. December 29, 2012 / 12:20 pm

Weren't you looking for a dress like that?! I feel that sometimes the charity shops call you and you HAVE to go, and you find everything you've been dreaming of and more.

Crewe's good for chazzas too, if you're ever round that way.

    • December 29, 2012 / 12:27 pm

Yussss, well this colour but I had in my head more of a skater style one! This one is nice though and perfect length now!! Although the sleeves are a touch poofy. I never find good stuff in Crewe ones, Nantwich has some good stuff but they really mark the prices up, bastards. x

  14. December 29, 2012 / 12:17 pm

This is the best post EVER. I love charity shops although I need to travel quite a bit for them and we never seem to have any massive bargains (its all George at ASDA and New Look aha!) but there's nothing better than a rummage around in a charity shop ๐Ÿ™‚

    • December 29, 2012 / 12:26 pm

Ah we have some good ones around here! Although the city centre ones are rubbish the ones in the little towns always come up trumps!!
