Blue Rose

If someone had said to me 2 years ago that I’d even own one bright, bold lipstick I would have probably laughed in their face. I’ve always avoided a coloured lip as I used to think it made me look a bit like a drag queen. Whilst there’s nothing wrong with being a drag queen, it’s just not a great daily look when that’s not what you desire. I picked up the brand new Revlon Colourburst Lipgloss in the shade ‘adorned’ the other evening in Boots and realised I had developed a bit of a thing for vivid pink lip products. I also realised I now have three lovely fuschia ones that have the most wonderful blue tones to them! They also seem to be my absolute favourite lipsticks to wear at the moment too and each comes in at a budget friendly price.

NYC Ultra Last Lipstick in Blue Rose (£1.99)

The cheapest of the trio, the NYC lipstick in Blue Rose, is the only one that comes in traditional ‘stick’ form. It’s such superb quality for such a small price tag and an affordable choice to begin your adventure in to the ‘bluey pink’ lip. If you’re a little unsure about how a blue toned fuschia will look on your skin tone then just splurge a tiny amount of this and you can see what you think. I’m smitten with it and it’s great for every day wear. It’s not the longest lasting of the lip products I’ve tried and although it’s not particularly moisturising, it’s also not drying. This will last around 2-3 hours if you play your cards right and is such a unique shade you’ll treasure it even if you don’t bother wearing it in the end anyway. It’s probably the dullest finish of the three too, but not quite a matte finish either. It’s an average product with an impressive price tag and a phenomenal shade.

Revlon Colourbust Limited Edition Evening Opulence Lipgloss in Adorned (£5.99)

The newest edition to my collection, this is part of a limited edition range for Autumn 2013 by Gucci Westman (nope, I’ve not heard of this person either). Despite Emma Stone looking like a really tired frog who’s had a bit too much coffee in the promo images, I was still drawn the Revlon stand when I spotted this amazingly pink product. I swatched it on my hand and fell in love. Probably a more ‘sheer’ finish than the other two products here, but still a wonderful pigmentation which stains your lips for the entire day even when the glossy finish has worn off. I’m not the biggest fan of lip glosses really, as I find they dry my lips and don’t last very long at all, but this one is great. It’s non sticky, non drying and also as I said, it leaves a lovely pop of pink on your lips even when the surface of the shade has worn off.

Lush Emotional Brilliance in Passionate (£14.50)

And finally, the most expensive and probably my favourite of the bunch is the Lush Emotional Brilliance lip colour in Passionate. I have written a review of this before and as you can see by the state of the little bottle it is well loved. I absolutely adore the bright finish and the long lasting goodness of it! Although £14.50 is more than I would usually be willing to pay for a lip product, this is the ultimate investment lip colour for me. After application it lasts ALL DAY, I’m not even exaggerating. The finish is almost velvet like and it’s like a mix up of the Rimmel Apocolips and the ELF HD Blusher but in a much nicer little apothecary style bottle. It’s a little more purpley than blue toned but still such a unique and lovely shade. This one is the winner for me out of the three,  but all seem to be equally as amazing in their own little way. Or maybe I’m just a sucker for the colour no matter what form it’s in?!

Unfortunately, being such a unique colour they’re also a complete pain in the ass cheeks to take a good picture of. I simply cannot capture the lovely shades properly, but alas I have tried in many forms, just so you can get a better idea. As you can see the formula’s and textures of all the products are a little different but all of them are pretty much identical on (my) lips though, apart from a slight variation in the glossyness of the finish really. Each is a really nice two tone effect with a subtle blue/purple sparkle running through the hot pink/fuschia base colour.
