#ARWoman: Who Inspires You?

Karen O / Este Haim / Kathleen Hanna / Tina Belcher

When Atterley Road contacted me about their #ARWoman campaign, I knew straight away who it’d be all about: Kathleen Hanna. However, I have written about her recently in this post anyway! There’s only so much I can sing her praises without sounding a little too obsessive. So, I thought I’d feature more than just my Goddess of Riot Grrl and tell you all about 3 other women alongside Kathleen which make me proud to rock my ovaries.
Karen O //
You’ll know Karen O from her screechy, singy, sultry sounds in the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Every time I hear Fever To Tell I just feel all gooey inside. Her style is my main point of awe-spiration (yeah, I’m just going to start making words up now). Karen O dresses how she wants, when she wants, and is known for her colourful, quirky garments almost as well as her music. Karen O also composed the soundtrack to one of my favourite films; Where The Wild Things Are.
Favourite Karen O Quote:
”I’m in the camp that needs to discover and take risks, sometimes it’s with the promise of something special and new, sometimes it’s to stay awake, either way it’s much more stressful with all the uncertainty but worth the pain in the end.”

Kathleen Hanna //

Singer from Le Tigre, founder of Bikini Kill, fearless feminist who brings all the sass each and every day. Kathleen Hanna was also the one who came up with ‘smells like teen spirit’ for her pal Kurt Cobain and is married to a Beastie Boy. She’s your favourite female you’ve possibly never heard of, but you need to watch The Punk Singer to fully understand why she’s so great.
Favourite Kathleen Hanna Quote:
”You don’t have to have magic unicorn powers. You work at it, and you get better. It’s like anything: You sit there and do it every day, and eventually you get good at it.”

Este Haim //

If there’s one thing I like about a girl it’s a sense of humour, and Este is the one from Haim that you can really see yourself having a  jolly good time with. The eldest of the trio, she is known for her ‘bass face’ when playing live, which, let’s face it – ain’t the most attractive. But does she care? NO. Does she swerve the negativity? HELL YEAH. She’s got the sass, the bands got the style, and their songs are pretty catchy to boot.
Favourite Este Haim Quote:
Okay, I don’t have one, but you might want to look at this Buzzfeed List showing things her ‘bassface’ looks like instead.

Tina Belcher //

I became addicted to Bob’s Burgers a few months ago and watched it NON STOP. It’s probably one of my favourite animated series of all time. Tina was the character that really stood out for me though. She’s awkward, she’s honest and she wears her heart on her sleeve. She likes butts and she’s not afraid to say that (especially Jimmy Juniors). She writes her own erotic fiction and likes all the regular things a teenage girl should; horses, rainbows and zombies.
Favourite Tina Belcher Quote:

I love Bob's Burgers and I think I watched the first 3 season in about 2 days. It's amazing! I love Tina's one liners but Louise is definitely my favourite character!

Okay that's it. I've never watched Bob's Burgers. But everyone keeps raving about it. Please tell me how to get into Bob's Burgers. Because apparently this Tina girl is life.
