If you follow me on Instagram
, then you would have noticed that I’ve got somewhat of an enthusiasm for pizza. It’s not a new found enthusiasm either, I’ve been enjoying my Pizza Friday’s for many a-year with my current choice being *whisper* Dominos, half a large pizza with tomato base, jalapeños and tandoori chicken plz.
It’s like Crazy Pedro’s Part Time Pizza Parlour Full Time Cocktail Bar in Manchester
discovered my love of pizza and felt that I had to be part of their lives
when I was invited to take part in an intimate little pizza party, which took place the other weekend. Of course, my answer upon invitation was a big round, pizza shaped YES. It was a very small group of bloggers and press in attendance and during this magical two hours on a sunny (but windy) Saturday, we all got to sample the culinary delights of Crazy Pedro’s alongside making our own pizza for ourselves.
Yup, you read that right – they let us make our OWN pizza.
Before we got down to the serious business of making our own pizza’s, we were given an introduction in to what Crazy Pedro’s was all about. As you can tell by the name of the place, they serve pizza part time and cocktails ALL the time. I’d previously been to Crazy Pedro’s when it first opened with a few friends and can tell you that Peach and Black Pepper Frozen Margarita is a taste sensation. Although a little heavy on the purse, at £7 a tipple, it’s kinda worth it for the interesting combinations of flavours they use. That cocktail inparticular had a fresh kick to it like no cocktail I’d ever tasted before! When we went that time we all shared a full chicken and waffle pizza. Yup, you read that right, a pizza which came with fried chicken, waffles and a glugg of maple syrup on it. This sweet and savoury combination is totally what I’m in to, and for £12.50 this 16 inch pizza is perfect for up to 4 people to share!
We were treated to some Nacho’s before we got down to the pizza making action, and they in themselves were pretty awesome. The freshness of the tomatoes, with a slight tang balanced out with cool cheese make them the perfect teaser for the full Crazy Pedro’s pizza making experience!
The dough had already been freshly prepared by the authentic Italian chef Enrico, alongside the super fresh tomato base sauce and we got a little masterclass in how to shape the dough ready for our pizza toppings. Now, I wasn’t the best at this, so thankfully there are no pictures capturing my awkward lack of pizza dough shaping skills, but I got there in the end I assure you.
For the topping of my pizza I went a little bit crazy. I just couldn’t decide what to put on it. So in the end I went for their home cooked pulled pork, chicken, chorizo, jalepenos, cheese, sausage and waffles. Yeah…. It kinda of sounds a little bit crazy like Pedro himself when I put it like that doesn’t it? But each ingredient stood out in it’s own right and my custom made pizza was perfectly delicious. Not to mention I was kind of proud I’d shaped the base myself!
After the pizza’s were made, we sat by down and were able to enjoy even more pizza (I swear I’m not keyword stuffing ‘pizza’ here). I thought it was a nice touch how we could take our full pizza’s home and sample more from the menu, rather than just eating the one we’d just made!
After tasting a selection from the Crazy Pedro’s menu, I have to say that the Pedro’s World Famous Hot Dog Flavoured pizza was my favourite pizza of all time. Even better than that mexican one Asda do with the tortilla on top (hey, don’t judge). Beer soaked sausage, american cheese, crispy onions, drizzled with mustard and ketchup…. I am drooling as I type that and remember the amazing flavours and textures that pizza contained…
Have I mentioned I really like pizza?
To wash it down, I also treated my taste buds to a Dizzee Mescal Cocktail, which was a combination of lime, tequila, grenadine and a few other fruity flavours for good measure. It was a little too tequila like for my tastes, but you know me, I’ll polish anything off which has a good amount of alcohol in it.
If you’re ever in the area it’s worth noting that Crazy Pedro’s often have their own Happy Hour offers on and between 5 and 9pm you can get an entire full size pizza for £7.50. In the words of Edwin Starr – Good God Y’allllll.
If you’re ever in Manchester, it’s also worth noting that the people who bring you Crazy Pedro’s also own Liar’s Club and Cane & Grain
, which I keep walking past and NEED to go in. They do a watermelon salad for God’s sake. My favourite of all the salads (alongside a lot of bourbon, beer and ribs.)
