Drinks Blog: A Surprisingly Tasty Gin Cocktail

Ever since discovering Espresso & Tonic Water I cannot stop craving them.

Okay, it sounds vile, I know.

But I swear, the combination of these two bitter liquids makes for the most delicious drink to get you going in the morning. I don’t know if it’s the bubbles or what, but I immediately feel it go to my brain and I’m ready for the day.

This weekend I tried to recreate the magic myself at home. I mean, I love them and all, but spending close to £4 to enjoy one when I’m out is clearly going to bankrupt me before long.

So I cracked out my coffee machine and a glass of tonic water.

Did it taste as good? Not quite. For one, I didn’t use an espresso capsule and opted for a standard Americano.

But it could be saved.

With gin.

Because naturally, what goes better with Tonic Water?

I added a double measure of The Lakes Distillery Explorer Edition Gin and gave it a little stir.

This made the coffee flavour a little too diluted though. So I simply solved that with a shot of Kahlua, which is a rich coffee liqueur.

The flavour was anything but sweet, so if you are one of those people who wants a cocktail that isn’t the standard fruity-rot-the-enamel-off-your-teeth style, then this may be worth giving a go.

Now, I wouldn’t advise tanking up on too many of these bad boys and I think my recipe may need to be refined a little bit. But it’s a jolly good start. I mean, I definitely enjoyed it myself.
